Rainey has lived the majority of her life in New Mexico, in and around Albuquerque, and therefore is a New Mexican at heart. Her only musical training up until the age of nine was a year of piano. However, that summer, by a lucky coincidence she met Christine Sigg, a Swiss violinst/violist. By an even luckier coincidence, Christine lived near enough to start teaching her viola. When she was 12, her family moved to Houston, and she began taking lessons from Sheldon Person, a master student at Rice University. However, Christine has remained close. Rainey is currently at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She is studying privately with Wayne Brooks, the principal violist of the Houston Symphony. Her long term goals include performance in chamber ensembles, and music education. Outside of music, she enjoys writing poetry, reading, watching good, often eccentric, movies, and being "whimsical, quirky, and downright silly".
